  • 2025 Study Published on the Value of Health Information Exchange in Emergency Departments

    The PHIX team, in collaboration with researchers at Brigham Young University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso, published a study on the value of Health Information Exchanges (HIE) in emergency departments in The Western Journal of Emergency Medicine.

    This 2025 chart review study found that Emergency Department Physicians using PHIX data from a prior emergency visit would have:

    Changed the approach during a subsequent emergency department visit in 69% of cases.

    Enabled the physician to use or compare prior lab or imaging results in 67% of cases.

    Led to a better understanding of patient behavioral patterns in 73% of cases.

  • 2023 Study Published on Reducing Readmissions through Health Information Exchange Participation

    The PHIX team, in collaboration with researchers at Brigham Young University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso, published a study on the impact of PHIX on hospital reutilization in the Annals of Family Medicine.

    This 2023 study found that when PHIX was used during a follow-up visit after a hospitalization, the likelihood of revisiting the ED decreased by 53% while re-hospitalizations decreased by 61%.
